the demons of imposition

Playing

The demons of imposition are now simply loaded as QuickTime movies into web pages.
QuickTime plugins for Firefox and Chrome still handle these programmed movies well.
Despite the fact that QuickTime is an Apple-branded technology, Safari does not.

To play the listening demons, simply:
- turn your audio volume up to an appropriate level;
- quit other applications if your machine is slow and/or you do not wish to be interrupted;
- make sure you have a working wireless connection to the internet;
- double-click one or two movies of your choice from the page linked below.
During a performance or installation, please DO NOT try to run more than one movie per machine.

Downloading

Before any performance or installation :
if you have not downloaded a demon, simply go to this page.

Considerations:

QuickTime movies, especially ones with audio and interactivity, demand resources. The listening movies have been tested on many types of Macintosh machines and a fair number of PCs. DO NOT try to run more than one movie per system, especially during the performance or installation, especially on a relatively slow machine.

My main PC testing platform was a 2.53 GHz with Windows XP but only 248 MB of RAM. This plays one movie without difficulty, but does not handle two smoothly. Probably the amount of memory has more influence on movie playback than processor speed.

The beacon of imposition is now always-on, meaning that you can link as many listening movies as you like to the 'beacon' whenever you like. If you want to see whether imposition beacon is running and distributing its states, you can use a browser to go to:

the lhk (light house keeper)

You should see (as a minimum) 9 numerals strung together. If you refresh your browser after a minute or so and the numbers have changed, imposition is running and should be determining the state of any listening movie that you have running.
